Bro. Justin Ledbetter has been leading Salem United Methodist church since July of 2018. Him and his wife, Rev. Susan Ledbetter, minister together in Saline County. Bro. Justin is passionate for the members of the congregation. Justin Ledbetter has been in ministry since 2001 and has held positions such as Bentonville, Batesville, and more.

His favorite past times are spending time with family, being outdoors, and developing disciples in Christ. As an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, Justin find peace and God's wonder in blessings of life.

Children's Ministry Director

Position Description and Overview:

The director is the primary person responsible for children's education and programs, including newborns through children in sixth grade. The director provides oversight of these programs and coordinates all volunteers with children and their families. In all things, the director is called to be an example of Christ's love to the people of Salem UMC and to be a servant leader in children's Christian education.

Knowledge and Skills:

The director must have a solid foundation in Christian faith and have experience in the life and fellowship of Christ’s church. He/She should be an individual who is spiritually mature, enthusiastic, able to take initiative but also must work in collaboration with pastors, staff and members of the congregation. This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. He/She must have demonstrated experience as a leader as well as the ability to recruit volunteer support for children's ministry. Experience in early childhood education and/or education in child development is highly recommended. He/She should be well organized to effectively coordinate and complete multiple projects. This person should have gifts in working with children, but also be sensitive to the needs of families within the congregation. Knowledge and ability to utilize technology tools is preferred.

Specific Position Responsibilities:

1. Work with the Staff and Pastor to develop and implement activities related to this ministry.

2. Work with the Staff and Pastor to select curricula for all children's ministries.

3. Coordinate the schedule of Children's Ministry events and activities with the other ministries at Salem UMC.

4. Lead/direct and be present for all programs in a way that welcomes existing Salem UMC families and children back to church following the pandemic and serves as an outreach to others to regrow the program, including but not limited to:

  • Sunday School during Sunday morning worship hours

  • Children’s Church on Sunday morning

  • Salem Kids on Wednesdays

  • Vacation Bible School

  • Special programming planned in consultation with the Leadership Team such as the Easter Egg hunt, Summer Camp Meeting, Fall Festival, Christmas Events...

5. Coordinate paid/volunteer staff providing care in the church nursery on Sunday mornings.

6. Foster a relationship with the families and volunteers in Children’s ministry and seek to develop a Children’s Leadership Team.

7. Communicate the events of the ministry through personal phones calls, text messages, the monthly newsletter, weekly email, website, social media, etc. to maximize participation and outreach

8. Ensure that all policies and procedures of Salem UMC and ARUMC Safe Sanctuary are implemented.

9. Other duties as identified by the Pastor, Administrator, SPRC and Leadership Team.

Reporting Relationship

This person is accountable to the Salem UMC through the Pastor and the Leadership Team. Weekly direction and guidance will be provided by the Pastor, as Head of Staff. Evaluation and review of ministry performance will be conducted to enable, equip, correct, and renew the person called to this position.

Location: Benton, Arkansas On Campus at Salem UMC

  • Some remote work per communications with congregation, volunteers and staff

Compensation: This position is approximately 10-12 hours per week. Compensation will be commensurate with experience ($5/10k)

Music Ministry: Part-time Pianist

Part-time Pianist/Accompanist Job Description

The Salem United Methodist Church (Benton, AR) seeks a skilled pianist to join the music ministry team. The pianist/accompanist will play piano for the congregation during church services and for the choir during rehearsals. This position reports to the Music Director and is overseen by the Senior Pastor.

Salem UMC employs a part-time Music Director and Pianist. These paid staff lead our volunteer choir members. Our choirs act as liturgical leaders at weekly worship services and a variety of functions and special, seasonal services. Choir members are expected to attend regular weekly rehearsals, and participate in worship on Sunday mornings at 1100am September-May. The minimum age for membership in the chancel choir is 8th grade.

Necessary skills:

● Ability to play hymns, service music, and special music of moderate difficulty.

● Experience with and basic knowledge of church music.

● Flexibility, sight-reading, and improvisatory abilities desired.

● Ability to work collaboratively with others. Possess good communication skills.

Anticipated time commitments:

● Playing for 1100am worship service on Sundays

● Accompany choir rehearsals as needed.

● During summer months (June-Labor Day Sunday) the choir does not rehearse and sing every week, usually just once per month (TBD). Worship schedule will remain the same. Summer playing duties can be arranged between pianist and Music Director to allow for planned vacations.

● Additional time may be required for special services and church holidays, especially Christmas and Holy Week.


● Play at traditional Sunday Services (1100am) every week throughout the year.

● Responsible for selection and preparation of appropriate service music including: prelude, offertory, postlude, and music during distribution of Communion elements.

● Play as scheduled for special services, TBD.

● Play for choir practice (currently on Thursday evenings from 7:30-8:30pm).

● Play, for extra compensation to be provided by those requesting services, for weddings, funerals, memorial services, as needed.

● Arrange for acceptable substitute when unable to attend, with approval from music director.

Compensation: $100 per service / to be paid bi-weekly on the 15th and 30th of the month.
